Change Management and Its Role in Achieving Competitive Advantage in the Health Sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the reality of practicing change management and investigate its impact on achieving competitive advantage in the health sector. The population of the study consisted of employees of one of the public Hospitals in Jeddah, and the study sample included (80) employees. The study adopted the analytical descriptive approach, and questionnaires were used for data collection. Findings of the study based on the perspective of the sample members shows that "the reality of practicing change management and its dimensions in the health sector” was rated (high), "the reality of achieving competitive advantage and its dimensions in the health sector" was rated (medium), and it also showed that there is no statistically significant differences at the significance level of (0.05) among sample members' opinions on the questionnaire's components with regard to the variables of gender, years of experience. The study also revealed the existence of a positive correlation between the total score for competitive advantage and the dimensions of change management and its total score which was valued at (.832**). Recommendations of the study include the following: conducting future studies by expanding upon the scope of the current study to encompass hospitals with individual specializations and government hospitals and comparing their results with the those of the present study; conducting further research for investigating the perceptions of patients in Saudi pubic-sector hospitals compared to those in private hospitals; and the necessity that the management of the Saudi medical institutions to support the integration of
