The current status of practical application among students of health colleges in Asir region from the perspective of female students and laboratories technicians

Abstract
This study was aimed at identifying the reality of the competencies of practical application among the students of health colleges in Asir region, and the challenges they face, as well as to know the development proposals to confront it from the perspective of students and laboratories technicians. The study relied on analytical descriptive approach, and the researcher used a questionnaire as data collection tool and applied to all of 54laboratories technicians and354 simple random samples of female students. After reviewing the core issues, the result of study concluded that there is a large degree of practical application competencies among students of health colleges in the Asir region, with an arithmetic mean of 3.96.The competencies of laboratories technicians came in the first place, followed by the competencies of laboratories technicians. The study also reported that there are a set of practical application challenges faced by female students of health colleges, including the inflation of the theoretical content of the courses more than the applied content. The difficulty of following up the performance of female students due to their large number, and the lack of training courses that contribute to activating laboratory equipment. The study also reported that there were differences in the degree of availability of practical application competencies from the point of view of laboratories technicians due to the academic qualification in favour of those who obtained a diploma, as well as in the experience in favour of those with more than 10 years of experience. The result also showed that there are differences in the degree of efficiency of practical application competencies from the students' point of view due to the specialization in favour of students in the specialty of anaesthesia. There are also differences between the average responses of laboratories technicians and female students about the degree of availability of practical application competencies among students of health colleges in the Asir region and the challenges they face, and the differences were in favour of laboratories technicians. The study concluded by presenting a set of the most important proposals for the development of practical application, including: providing modern equipment that serves the work and provides the needs of modern hospitals, as well as organizing training courses accredited by specialized bodies to help students raise their level of practical application.
