A study aimed at examining a proposed model for assessing intellectual capital and its impact on sustainability in Libyan commercial banks in the light of international accounting standards. The study sample consisted of three Libyan commercial banks, which are "Jumhuriya Bank, Sahara Bank, and Al-Wahda Bank located in the geographical area of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, and a sample of Libyan commercial bank workers amounted to (228) participants who were selected randomly. The researcher used Pearson's correlation coefficient to measure the relationship between the study variables, as well as the path analysis method and the structural equation model to measure the direct and indirect relationships between these variables. The researcher relied on the balanced performance card, and its main dimensions, which were presented by (Kaplan & Norton, 1992) in order to evaluate intellectual capital and its impact on sustainability in commercial banks. The results of the study showed that there is a statistically significant effect between the application of international accounting standards as a mediating variable in the relationship between intellectual capital and the sustainability of Libyan commercial banks. There is a statistically significant effect between intellectual capital and the application of international accounting standards in Libyan commercial banks. There is also a statistically significant effect between the application of international accounting standards and the sustainability of Libyan commercial banks.
On the other hand, the researcher recommended, based on the findings of the research, the need to work on adopting the requirements and elements of applying the balanced scorecard by the Libyan commercial banks, and expanding its use in a better way than what is currently practiced, with the aim of enhancing its effective role in assessing intellectual capital, including: Contribute to these commercial banks achieving their objectives and increasing their competitiveness among other commercial banks.
