Abstract

The aim of the research was to study the economics of producing the sugar beet crop in Sharkia Governorate as new cultivation areas. Based on field data for a sample of 200 farmers for the agricultural season 2021/2022 in the South Al-Husseiniyah region in Al-Sharkia Governorate, which represents about 10% of the total number of farmers in the region. The descriptive statistical analysis method and the farm income statement analysis were used to estimate some indicators of the productive and economic efficiency of the sugar beet crop in the new lands under different production capacities. The research reached several results, the most important of which are: (1) The total costs of the sugar beet crop amounted to about 13521.06 pounds per feddan for the total sample, and about 13035.38 pounds as a minimum in the third holding category, and about 13687.72 pounds as a maximum in the first holding category, in When it amounted to 13643.02 pounds in the second holding category, meaning that the total costs in the third holding category represent about 95.30% of those in the first holding category, and this is in line with economic logic and achieving capacity savings in the sense of lower costs by increasing the cultivated area. (2) The value of the primary product amounted to about 20442.38 pounds per feddan, representing about 92.34%, while the value of the secondary product amounted to about 1696.75 pounds per feddan, representing about 7.66% of the total revenue per feddan in pounds for the sugar beet crop, which amounted to about 22139 13 pounds per acre for the total sample. (3) The farms of the third holding class are more economically efficient than the farms of the first and second holding classes, as it was shown that all indicators of the economic performance efficiency of producing the sugar beet crop have improved in the farms of the third holding class due to the high total revenue and the low total costs. (4) There are statistically significant differences and differences between total total costs, total revenue and indicators of economic efficiency of the sugar beet crop according to the different holding categories under study.
