Developing e-reading skills among Arabic language learners who speak other languages at the intermediate level using blended learning

Abstract

This research aimed to develop e-reading skills among Arabic language learners who speak other languages ​​at the intermediate level through the use of blended learning. To achieve the previous goal, the researcher prepared a list of the e-reading skills to be developed and a test to measure them. After verifying its validity and reliability, the researcher prepared a program based on blended learning to develop them. It was applied to a sample of thirty students who were divided into two groups. The first group had fifteen students (the experimental group) who studied the skills using the proposed program, and the second group had fifteen students (the control group) who studied the skills using the usual methods. The results of the study revealed the effectiveness of the program in developing reading skills. The main electronic skills (reading fluency skills, reading comprehension skills, and picture reading skills) and their sub-skills. The study also recommended a set of recommendations, including: interest in developing electronic reading skills and directing the reading self among Arabic language learners who speak other languages ​​at different levels. Attention is paid to identifying reading skills for each academic level, employing all branches of the Arabic language to develop learners’ e-reading skills, and using modern learning approaches and models such as blended learning.
