Abstract

'Potatoes are one of the most important agricultural export crops, as the average quantity of Egypt's exports of this crop amounted to about 479 thousand tons, with an average monetary value estimated at about 186 million dollars, during the period (2004-2022). Egyptian exports and the issue of their development occupy the minds of Egyptian policy makers and decision makers, especially agricultural ones, which face many challenges, problems and obstacles, which stand in the way of their development and increasing the export share of them. These challenges are divided into those related to the competitive advantage in foreign markets, the multiplicity of those markets, and the difference in the absorption quotas for each market, due to the difference in export prices for agricultural crops, the most important of which are potatoes. Therefore, competitiveness was one of the important elements that work to encourage agricultural exports, which requires studying the competitiveness of this crop, so that the Egyptian state's revenue from its exports is not affected. The research mainly aimed to study the competitive advantage of potato crop exports and study the indicators of foreign trade for this crop, as it was found that raising the efficiency of the external trade performance of agricultural crops is one of the most important factors that maximize the export return, maintain current markets and help to Penetrating new markets.
